We operate four programs for children aged 3-5 years. All our programs are designed to provide healthy childhood development and early learning opportunities to support kindergarten readiness.
We believe that all children have the right to a high quality program that meets their developmental needs whether they come part-time in a preschool program or full-days in a combined preschool & child care program. Each of our well-rounded programs include physical activity, healthy snacks, a balance between free play and structured activities, small group & individual activities and quiet times for reading and resting. All the programs provide these daily activities, and each program also has a unique focus or philosophy as outlined below.

Concepts such as numbers, colours, body parts, animals, directional words and seasons will be introduced through a variety of learning techniques. Montessori Montessori Method 3&4 Year Olds |
![]() |
The Montessori Method is a child-centred educational method based on theories of child development originated by Itlaian educator Maria Montessori in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is applied primarily in preschool & elementary school settings. The Montessori Method is characterized by an emphasis on self-directed activity on the part of the child and clinical observation on the part of the educator. It stresses the importance if adapting the environment to his or her developmental level, and the role of the physical activity in absorbing abstract concepts and practical skills. It is also characterized by the use of autodidactic (self-correcting) equipment for introduction and learning of the various concepts. The Montessori philosophy is built upon the idea that children develop & think differently from adults; that they are not merely adults in small bodies. The premise of a Montessori approach to teaching & learning include the following.
- Children are capable of self-directed learning
- The teacher is an observer & a resource rather than a lecturer
- There are numerous sensitive periods of development during which a child's mind is particularily open to learning specific skills or knowledge & various levels of social interaction
- Children have an absorbent mind from birth to around age six, possessing limitless motivation to achieve competence within the environment and to perfect skills & understanding
- Children are masters of their environment, which has been specifically prepared for them to be academic, comfortable & to encourage independence by giving them the tools & responsibility to manage its upkeep
- Children learn through discovery, so didactic materials with a control of error are used
- Children often learn alone during periods of intense concentration
- The hand is ultimately connected to the developing brain in children. Children must actually touch the shapes, letters, temperatures etc. that they are learning about - not just watch the teacher or a TV screen that tells them about these discoveries

Scuola Des Bambini - Junior Kindergarten Reggio Emilia Approach 4&5 Year Olds |
This Junior Kindergarten Program provides developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for children to grown in a safe & supportive environment. Each morning the children gather for a meeting to talk about their projects and schedule for the day. Project topics are chosen base on interests expressed by the students. Project topics include: bones, light, transportation, electricity, newspapers, growing things, etc. Field trips and guest speakers are an essential part of the project approach, which puts learning into context for the children. They learn new vocabulary, articulate their thoughts and explore the topic to make sense of the world around them.
The Ministry of Education has developed the Early Learning Framework which was created in partnership with the Ministries of Children & Families, Healthy Living & Sport, and Education. It describes the vision, pedagogical principles, and key areas of learning for children from birth to five years. We use this as a tool for reflecting and guiding our Junior Kindergarten Program.
The Reggio emilia Approach is an educational philosophy focussed on preschool and primary education. It was started by the parents of the villages around Reggio Emilia in Italy after World War II to eliminate fascism. They felt that it is in the early years of development that children are forming who they are as an individual. This led to the creation of a program based on the principles of respect, responsibility and community through exploration & discovery in a supportive & enriching environment. The Reggio Emilia philosophy is based on the following set of principles:
- Children must have some control over the direction of their learning
- Children learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing & hearing
- Children express themselves in 100 different ways
- Children have a relationship with other children and with material items in the world that they must be able to explore
- The classroom is the third teacher, a beautifully prepared environment
- Teacher observation and documentation of childrens' words are key to the anlysis and preparation for program direction

Kindercare Before, After & Alternate Day Enrichment & Childcare Kindergarten Children |
|
Kindercare offers time to explore and further develop the skills children are learning at school. All children attend kindergarten, so they are all learning and mastering the same skills and offer support in each others' progress.
Kindercare is designed to provide child care for children enrolled in kindergarten during their out-of-school times. These include before and after school, Christmas, Spring & Summer Breaks and Pro-D Days. During the school year Kindercare children have their own program, and in July & August they join our other 3-5 programs for full day activities.
Kindercare is staffed all day from 7:30-5:30. This way, children can be registed in full-day, morning or afternoon kindergarten and also participate in Kindercare. Children arrive by bus from a number of schools and are met outside by Kindercare staff.
The program includes healthy snakcs, frequent outside time for physical activity, emphasis on arts & crafts activities & reading. Children have a variety of choices in how they spend their day and often go out for field trips in the local neighbourhood.
