Infant
& Toddler Programs
We have three programs for children under the age of three years, all located at our West Vernon Children's Centre.
Our programs are all family-centred, understanding that the family is the child's first teacher and has the greatest influence and investment in their children.
Our programs incorporate aspects of the High/Scope and Magda Gerber approaches to early childhood care and education. We believe that very young children learn best by developing strong attachments to their caregivers, through extensive opportunities for sensory-motor exploration, and through using teachable moments in the course of the daily routines. Children are provided with many opportunities for free play with friends, safe arts and crafts materials that emphasize the process, not the product and short field trips in the surrounding neighbourhood in our 3 and 4 seater strollers.
Families receive daily write-ups on their child's day so that they can keep connected with their child's successes at the centre. Good nutrition and physical activity both indoors and outdoors are a part of every day. We consider the parents an important part of the team and value the knowledge and skills they share with us about their individual children.
Children are assigned a primary caregiver who will be involved with the majority of the caregiving routines such as diapering, feeding and helping with naptime for the child, as well as being the contact for most of the communication with parents.
Our two IT programs offer safe, secure, loving and nurturing care for our youngest citizens and peace of mind for their parents. The little ones will learn to build loving and trusting relationships with their caregivers and to socialize with peers their own age. Little miracles happen in these rooms every day.

Stepping Stones Toddlers 2-3 Years Old |
Our Stepping Stones classroom offers our toddlers the opportunity to practice all their newly gained independence and self-help skills and learn how much fun it is playing with others rather than just along side them.
- Staff are all Early Childhood Educators
